Manchester Wood: American Made Furniture

Manchester Wood designs and produces quality, affordable, eco-friendly solid wood American furniture in the Green Mountains of Vermont and Adirondack foothills of New York.

The American Made Christmas

Although the title speaks solely to Christmas, we feel all Holidays celebrated this time of year should strongly consider gifts to be Made in the USA. That may sound flag totting, a bit arrogant, or not Worldly enough in approach, but the American working class needs your help more than ever before, and what better time to offer your support than in this season of giving.

ABC World News with Diane Sawyer ran an article last week citing that if every American spent $64 on US Made goods that would create 200,000 jobs. And that’s not a lot of money to spend, considering the average American pays out $704 on shopping this time of year.

Now our little American made furniture plant has been picking up steam lately, and we thank you dearly for that. Our workforce has just entered full-time work again after several months on and off with part-time employment, many struggling to make ends meet. To say the times have been easy would be a lie, to say they’ve been a learning experience and a testament to the good we as people bestow, would be accurate and true.

Help us and other businesses producing American made products thrive and succeed in a Worldly model that so desperately needs our involvement.

In the same realm as energy efficient appliances, organic foods, alternative medicines, American made falls right into the same category as one in need of desperate action and understanding.

If you’re looking to gift or receive incredible American made solid wood furniture, look no further than Manchester Wood. If you have ideas beyond furniture, and want to help support other goods and services with a Made in USA seal, visit our good friends AmericansWorking.com for an extensive database on US Made businesses.

Happy Holidays, and God bless, from all of at Manchester Wood.

Our Employee Dinner: December 4th

Our Employee Dinner was December 4th at the Barn Restaurant in Pawlet, Vermont (pictured above) where we enjoyed each others company in holiday cheer. Aside from our blessed meal and time together, we passed out Christmas mugs and candy to our loyal workforce family as we enter this season of Spirit and Giving.

Thank you to our employees for this time together! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

American Made Christmas Shopping: the People’s Stimulus Package

ABC World News with Diane Sawyer’s “Made in America” series has continued far past the coverage Manchester Wood received as one of the “Made in USA” companies that supplied products towards the renovating of a Dallas home earlier this year with all American made items.

This holiday season they have taken an in-depth look at what Americans can do to help our domestic economy as we shop for gifts this Christmas.

A few interesting facts they discovered:

In the 1960s, nine out of every 10 products Americans bought for the holidays were made in America. Today easily more than half of what we buy is foreign-made.

If Americans spent $64 this holiday on an item made in America, we could create 200,000 jobs right now.

If it still sounds like a decent chunk of change consider that the average American spends $700 on Christmas or holiday gifts.

We believe wholeheartedly in this work above as they research the issues and discover the solutions towards a recovering economy. As we discussed in our previous blog, “The Gift That Keeps Giving: The Holidays for Manchester Wood,” the Christmas season to us a symbol of Gratitude and thanks for the gifts bestowed upon us.

In buying our American made solid wood furniture you can contribute the support of double to six-times the efforts they found! You can truly help stimulate American business, help get more people back to work, and not only feel good about that, but also that you have an heirloom quality item that you’ll proudly display and use, not a cheap throw-away, but something handcrafted with pride.

Buy furniture from Manchester Wood today. Let’s create jobs instead of losing them. Give the gift that keeps giving.

Happy holidays from all of us at Manchester Wood, God bless you.

Veteran’s Day on 11/11/11

Veteran's Day 11.11.11

In a time when our country needs the most synchronicity to upright and change the tide of a failing economy, immoral bank abuse, political agendas for a select few, and a restless occupy movement finding tent cities in every major metropolitan area in protest in part of this societal unrest; what better place to start that synch of a blissful and self-realized future than on 11-11-11.

An important day it is, as it finds celebration and honor for our veterans who have served, and we wish to thank them dearly for that service.

As an American made solid wood furniture manufacturer, Manchester Wood takes this day to not only keep in mind that synchronicity in which we put forth the idea for a more peaceful and spiritually uplifted union, but also for those who either chose or were found to be in military action as a service to the freedoms America possesses.

Manchester Wood’s founder Clifford Pierce was a medaled Korean War vet who valued and respected his time served and wished nothing more than the same for all those who have put on a uniform. We continue to extend that hand today to our veteran employees and those in our extended community.

This Veteran’s Day is filled with love, respect, gratitude, and an eye on a bright future where war, whether socially, politically, or physically drawn, will never be seen again.

God bless all veterans on this day!

The Statue of Liberty Celebrates 125th Anniversary

The State of Liberty during its 125th Anniversary Celebration

The Statue of Liberty (a.k.a. Liberty Enlightening the World) celebrated its 125th year as a landmark and as a testament to the American ideal this past week, October 28th 2011. It was on that day in 1886 when the statue was dedicated with Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom standing tall with a torch bearing freedom, chains broken at her feet, and a tablet evoking the laws of our Declaration.

Intended as a gift from the people of France and designed by Frédéric Bartholdi. The production of Libertas and her famed sculpture took Bartholdi over 15 years to make due to political unrest in France and than a lack of funds, which brought publisher Joseph Pulitzer of the World to drive a fundraiser in 1885 bringing more than a 120,000 Americans to contribute to it’s finishing.

Political unrest, lack of funds aside, this gift from France speaks more to us now than ever before. Are we not a nation of political unrest and bestowed with a lack of funds?

The Statue of Liberty was made in a time where America was beginning an upward climb, a manifesting path of un-defiance for an abundant future.

We must look to France in gratitude for this prized possession that is our reminder of freedom and opportunity, and than look to ourselves to make sure we deliver on its promise. Of the 120,000 American people who donated to the finishing touches more than half gave less than a dollar! It was France and the help of the American working class that helped raise this prize! Let us raise it again!

Our TV Tray Tables: In Real Simple, Yankee, and Atlantic Magazines

Manchester Wood's Portable Folding Work and Laptop Desk

You might have read our past blog on our TV Tray Tables, their history, the current uses, and how Manchester Wood provides the best version in American made solid wood craftsmanship. A surprise to some perhaps for continuing to write about our TV Tray Tables, but they remain a popular item for us that have seen many different days and uses since we started making them back in the late 70’s.

From Little House On The Prairie to American Idol, Manchester Wood has supplied TV Tray Tables for the better part of a half-century, producing a sturdy, well crafted, heirloom quality portable table for your dinner and viewing needs; the modern families prized item when gathering around for a favorite show.

The function for the item has changed, no question about that. Families don’t gather much around the television these days, but work more to mobilize their media in formats that keep them on the go. But with laptops and iPads as the main visual resource, Manchester Wood’s TV Tray Tables find a new use when looking to sit down and operate in a communal area, still to visit with their loved ones.

Be sure to pick up the latest Real Simple, Yankee, and Atlantic Magazines for advertisements featuring our wide array of TV Tray Tables.
