Veteran’s Day on 11/11/11

Veteran's Day 11.11.11

In a time when our country needs the most synchronicity to upright and change the tide of a failing economy, immoral bank abuse, political agendas for a select few, and a restless occupy movement finding tent cities in every major metropolitan area in protest in part of this societal unrest; what better place to start that synch of a blissful and self-realized future than on 11-11-11.

An important day it is, as it finds celebration and honor for our veterans who have served, and we wish to thank them dearly for that service.

As an American made solid wood furniture manufacturer, Manchester Wood takes this day to not only keep in mind that synchronicity in which we put forth the idea for a more peaceful and spiritually uplifted union, but also for those who either chose or were found to be in military action as a service to the freedoms America possesses.

Manchester Wood’s founder Clifford Pierce was a medaled Korean War vet who valued and respected his time served and wished nothing more than the same for all those who have put on a uniform. We continue to extend that hand today to our veteran employees and those in our extended community.

This Veteran’s Day is filled with love, respect, gratitude, and an eye on a bright future where war, whether socially, politically, or physically drawn, will never be seen again.

God bless all veterans on this day!

June 14th: Flag Day

In 1861 the country was in jeopardy, the American Civil War had just started and the Union was losing its youthful, vibrant, revolutionary energy. Factions of American society grew restless as a critical social evolution took place.

That same year, George Morris in Hartford, Connecticut was credited with suggesting “Flag Day,” an occasion in honor of the American Flag which was established on June 14th, 1777 and suggested that it should be further recognized with a celebration. The city of Hartford observed this new holiday with parades and patriotic programming on June 14th, 1861. The focus of it at the time was for prayer and support of the troops fighting in preservation of the Union.

It wasn’t until the early 20th century though, when President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14th as Flag Day, a day of patriotism, support, and reflection.

As the years pass, Flag Day has had its high times of celebration, and it’s low times, much like the change of the country and the World.

Interestingly enough, the largest Flag Day celebration is nearby our mill here at Manchester Wood in the city of Troy, New York, some 60 miles away with an average of over 50,000 in attendance.

Whether you’re a flag-totting patriot or a lover of a free world, or both, maybe next Tuesday June 14th you take time to reflect on the Flag, our history, and what a wild ride it’s been.

From all of us at Manchester Wood, happy early Flag Day, we hope you find that sometimes hidden powerful and independent spirit all us Americans have grown with.

Happy Flag Day!

American Made Furniture in the USA

Tradition

American furniture has been a family tradition for centuries,Made in the USA dating back to 1891 when the great grandfather of the founder of Manchester Wood, Clifford Pierce, began operating a sawmill and providing wood for American home furniture. The design of early wood American made furniture owed as much to necessity and available materials as it does to any sense of aesthetics. For early American settlers, wood was an abundantly available resource and so much early American furniture was built out of wood. Early American tables and chairs frequently incorporated turned wooden spindles into their design. For early American wood chair backs, wood was often bent by steaming it. Deciduous hardwoods were prized as materials for early American home furniture, with the wood of fruit and nut-bearing trees, such as Cherry or Walnut, being the most sought after.

New Collections

At Manchester Wood, we are constantly working to create new and unique made in the USA furniture. In this spirit, we have introduced two new American made furniture collections over the past year: our Cherry and Glass Top Collections. Traditionally, much of our wood American furniture has been constructed out of White Ash as it provides some of the strongest and most durable wood of USA species. However, we’ve recently expanded the diversity of our USA made furniture by using more American Black Cherry wood. Cherry wood is not only strong and durable; it also possesses a beautiful natural finish with which even White Ash has trouble competing. Each piece in our Cherry Collection is built out of solid American Black Cherry – with the option of either a Natural or Heritage stain finish – and made with pride in the USA.
