The Grounded Best Life: A family member of Manchester Wood

Manchester Wood's founder celebrating life in Florida on vacation with family and friends.

You know – I’ve begun to realize that Manchester Wood is the most sturdy, truthful, and loving group of business founders in the world (and I mean that).

I’m the grandson to the man who founded Manchester Wood …and Pierce Industries (no small note) …and was a farmer …a pilot …a medaled Korean War vet …and was the most loving, supportive man of a family far exceeding the one who writes this.

Let me give the roll count, he’d be proud to update you: We have four grandsons, eight granddaughters, twelve great-grandsons and great-granddaughters, three daughters … a son, and an encompassing love that surrounds this family; whether it be in-laws, friends, friends of friends… you get the drift: Abundance was manifested, both physically and spiritually.

I didn’t mention the other critical being that partnered and schemed this blessed life, his wife. An independent and worldly presence that stood by this trailblazing man of love in truth, and business, and who did nothing but want to give and give thanks to God and it’s world we exist in.

I’m writing a biblical crusade folks… but this is real life!

Manchester Wood stands large on the scale of American made solid wood furniture, it stands large on the scale of American made small business, but remains small in the sea of cheap knock-offs, box store deals, and any major outlet that people shop in.

And I like that.

Our current President leads an employee service milestone celebration this past Summer.

Because people who love, give, and support their community through jobs aren’t the people with the biggest pot of gold, they’re the ones with the best pot of gold!

Manchester Wood, like many American small businesses, stand proud at the fact “we’re the small guy looking in” at this greedy ever-growing-only-for-a-few big pot of gold.

I mean we’re the American people! We’re YOU. We’re US.

When America started; truth, love, good commerce, and a new way of life were the dream. I’m proud to say from the man who founded Manchester Wood to his daughter and son-in-law who run it today that dream still holds strong, and exists in all whom have worked there.

If you want furniture, support a place that produces from the most honest place America can make – a product made from a loving, caring, giving, and respectful place, made for the customer from the same place. Let’s all help grow a business like that, and awaken this culture to the good commerce around them.

Buy Manchester Wood.

In Love and Peace, God Bless You,

Luke Eriksen, son of Priscilla and Ed Eriksen, grandson to Evelyn and Clifford Pierce, and the many past, thank you for this life.

What Our Customers Say About Us

At Manchester Wood, we blog much about the positive effects behind buying American made furniture and the high quality product that we as a brand deliver. This week, we decided we’d like to let our loyal customer base speak for us through their reviews online to the emails we’ve received.

We hope their kind and supportive words will help you in deciding to buy from Manchester Wood for an American made hand crafted solid wood furniture item.

Many thanks, and blessings to you, also.

“This is a high quality piece of furniture. Assembly instructions were easy to follow. The wood is beautiful, and the desk is a great addition to the room where it’s placed. The “American Working Man”

Johnny, a true American, cleans paint gun parts as we wrap up a day of finishing at Manchester Wood.

When one thing slows, another begins to flow, and with a continual slowing economy and Washington politics at a revolutionary stage, the people in “power” are to blame for much of the everyday man’s economic distress. With loose trade agreements, lobbyists with executive deals in mind, and politicians following Wall Street’s bottom line, it’s left the “American Working Man” out of a job — funny even to say “American Working Man” these days; the phrase becomes more ancient as they steadily pass.

This has left much of American small business, especially blue collar jobs, to fend for themselves; a faction that although can immediately be drowned out in a room, becomes the most important factor during the hard times.

Manchester Wood would like to take this blog post to thank ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, Today in America with Terry Bradshaw, AmericansWorking.com, MadeinUSA.org, StillMadeinUSA.com, and the others who have spoken in support and/or have showcased our products. Thanks to these folks American business has a voice and a potential awakening factor to the mainstream American consumer.

June 14th: Flag Day

In 1861 the country was in jeopardy, the American Civil War had just started and the Union was losing its youthful, vibrant, revolutionary energy. Factions of American society grew restless as a critical social evolution took place.

That same year, George Morris in Hartford, Connecticut was credited with suggesting “Flag Day,” an occasion in honor of the American Flag which was established on June 14th, 1777 and suggested that it should be further recognized with a celebration. The city of Hartford observed this new holiday with parades and patriotic programming on June 14th, 1861. The focus of it at the time was for prayer and support of the troops fighting in preservation of the Union.

It wasn’t until the early 20th century though, when President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14th as Flag Day, a day of patriotism, support, and reflection.

As the years pass, Flag Day has had its high times of celebration, and it’s low times, much like the change of the country and the World.

Interestingly enough, the largest Flag Day celebration is nearby our mill here at Manchester Wood in the city of Troy, New York, some 60 miles away with an average of over 50,000 in attendance.

Whether you’re a flag-totting patriot or a lover of a free world, or both, maybe next Tuesday June 14th you take time to reflect on the Flag, our history, and what a wild ride it’s been.

From all of us at Manchester Wood, happy early Flag Day, we hope you find that sometimes hidden powerful and independent spirit all us Americans have grown with.

Happy Flag Day!
