We will have a quiet night at home and I’m cooking my husband’s favorite, classic marinaded steak and baked rosemary potatoes. For dessert we will have chocolate covered cherries and french cream cheese cake.

Spending a gentle day with my husband–my life partner and best friend–who survived a TBI, double-digit brain surgeries and months of hospitalization. Valentine’s Day is a reminder of the simple blessing of being together.

As we face the polar vortex and sub-zero temperatures, I am baking today and putting together little gift bags of indulgent toiletries and lotions for the ladies in the shelter where I volunteer. Each bag will include a couple of heart-shaped cookies, pretty nail polish, patterned emery boards, hand and foot creams, and more. Everyone needs a little something on Valentine’s Day to remind them that they are loved. <3

I will remember that love is an everyday thing, that a smile and a friendly hello lifts spirits, I will recognize that smile and smile back, for when human spirits are lifted, they become love all around, all the days of February, and beyond.

I am spreading the love through random acts of kindness throughout the month, not being judgmental, and practicing patience and understanding with a smile.

I made a nice, fancy meal for Valentines Day and then we made up cute goodie bags for our 3 grandkids full of all kinds of fun things as well as some nice chocolates.

We spread love this February but volunteering with groups that make a difference in our community. Working hard towards a goal of helping animals, other citizens and making our town a better place to live brings us more joy than anything we could buy.
