I enjoy spending fall time in the Rockies. My favorite locales are in Southwest Colorado, north of Durango, and up through Silverton to Ouray and Ridgeway. I love the changing vegetation colors, and the rapidly changing climate. Just as much, I treasure fall time spent in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the entire Yellowstone basin. Always spectacular scenery, but fewer crowds and more animal sightings in the fall. All things anticipating a rapidly arriving long winter!!

Vermont is probably the most beautiful place in the world when fall arrives. I lived in Bennington for about ten years. Fall colors were always breathtaking and better every year! This is the time of year I miss Vermont.

I love to visit other states in New England as the leaves change color. So beautiful.

Our favorite place to visit in the fall is Maine. With the yellow, red, and orange autumn leaves set against green conifers and deep blue lakes, under a clear bright blue sky, it’s stunning. So much so, that on our last trip we brought back several paintings of the Katahdin area in fall. But we live in Northeast Washington state, in the mountains, where our native fall color is mostly yellow from aspen and larch, and we love it too. And then there’s Alaska in the fall, very special. Fresh apples, crisp air, kayaking on glassy lakes, going to the county fair, watching the geese fly south, the coming of the fall rains and first snow – we love the autumn.
